West Palm Beach has become one of South Florida's most exciting wedding destinations. Its downtown waterfront looks across the Lake Worth Lagoon toward Palm Beach island; Clematis Street and the surrounding blocks are full of restaurants, rooftops and event spaces; and historic neighborhoods add old-Florida charm. We've been DJing weddings across South Florida since 1997, and we regularly make the trip north from our Miami base for West Palm celebrations.
Waterfront and downtown weddings
The downtown waterfront and nearby hotels give West Palm a city-meets-water feel. Couples love sunset cocktails with views across the lagoon, followed by receptions in modern hotel ballrooms, rooftop spaces or event venues just off Clematis.
What these venues have in common:
- Shared buildings. Many downtown venues sit in hotels or mixed-use buildings with load-in schedules, loading docks and freight elevators. We plan arrival times with the venue.
- Outdoor sound limits. Rooftops and terraces near residences and hotel rooms often have sound restrictions and earlier cut-offs for amplified music outdoors. We keep levels within the rules and can move the party inside on schedule.
- Insurance. Nearly all of these venues require vendor insurance. Starlight is insured, and we provide a certificate of insurance (COI) on request.

Historic charm
West Palm's historic districts, with their 1920s homes, churches and restored buildings, offer a quieter, more classic setting. Historic properties tend to have strict rules about equipment placement, cabling and load-in. We're used to working carefully in these spaces. For a classic room, consider warm uplighting that highlights architecture, and an MC style that's more refined than hype. See our wedding MC page.
A destination-friendly city
With its own international airport and the island of Palm Beach next door, West Palm attracts many destination couples and out-of-town guests. That means a dance floor mixing locals and visitors. We plan playlists that work for both: universal classics, current hits and a touch of South Florida flavor, including Latin and tropical sets when your crowd wants them. Our must-play songs by era list is a good starting point.
Planning the drive north
West Palm Beach is about 70 miles from our Miami base, and I-95 traffic on a weekend afternoon can be unpredictable. We take that seriously:
- We build a generous travel buffer into every West Palm wedding day.
- We arrive early, set up and sound-check well before guests arrive.
- We confirm load-in details with your venue the week of the wedding.
You'll never wonder whether your DJ is going to make it.
Season and weather
West Palm's prime wedding season runs from late fall through spring, when the city's social calendar is full and evenings are perfect for waterfront cocktails. Summer brings heat, afternoon storms and hurricane season (June through November). For outdoor portions, agree an indoor plan in advance. See our beach wedding sound tips for advice on outdoor sound by the water.
Making the most of a ballroom
Downtown hotel ballrooms are often neutral, flexible spaces, which means the decor and lighting make the room. Uplighting is the fastest way to give a ballroom personality, and our color guide has ideas from coastal blues to sunset corals. A photo booth adds entertainment for guests who aren't dancers.

Pricing
The same posted pricing applies in West Palm as everywhere we serve: $800 Sunday, $1,000 Friday, $1,200 Saturday, flat-rate with unlimited time. Uplighting is $300 with a DJ package, and the photo booth is $100 off with a DJ. For a full explanation, see our guide to wedding DJ costs.
Nearby
We also serve Palm Beach Gardens to the north and Delray Beach and Boca Raton to the south.
Indoor or outdoor? Planning a backup
Many West Palm Beach couples want at least part of the celebration outside, whether it's a waterfront ceremony or cocktails on a terrace. South Florida weather can change quickly, especially in the summer months when afternoon storms are common, so a weather backup is worth planning before the day.
Here's how we approach it:
- Know the backup space. Ask your venue where the indoor or covered option is, and tell us. We plan our setup for both spaces.
- Decide when to call it. Agree with your planner or venue on a deadline for the weather decision so every vendor knows where to set up.
- Keep gear covered and powered safely. Our equipment needs reliable power and protection from rain. Outdoors, we'll ask about covered space for the DJ setup.
- Plan the ceremony audio either way. Whether outside or in, guests need to hear the vows. We bring microphones for the officiant and couple.
- Adjust the timeline. If the ceremony moves inside, a quick room flip may be needed between ceremony and reception. Cocktail hour music covers the change.
A good backup plan means the weather becomes a minor detail rather than a source of stress on your wedding day.
