DJ Rig With a Water View

Fort Lauderdale Wedding DJ

Waterways, beachfront hotels and Las Olas nights, with a DJ who's played South Florida since 1997.

Fort Lauderdale has reinvented itself many times, but its love affair with the water has never changed. With hundreds of miles of canals, the Intracoastal Waterway, the New River winding through downtown and a beachfront lined with hotels along A1A, it's one of the most naturally photogenic places in South Florida to get married. It's also an easy drive up I-95 from our base in Miami, and we've been DJing Broward weddings since 1997.

Waterfront weddings: beautiful and breezy

Many Fort Lauderdale weddings take place right on the water: a lawn on the Intracoastal, a terrace over a canal, a riverfront patio downtown or the beach itself. The view is the star. The challenge is the wind, which can carry vows away and make microphones roar.

What we do about it:

  • Wind protection on every microphone, and close-mic technique for the officiant and the two of you.
  • Speaker placement that pushes sound toward the seating, not out over the water where it disappears (or bothers neighbors across the canal).
  • Compact, stable setups that won't tip in a gust.
  • A backup plan agreed with the venue for the summer's afternoon storms.

If your ceremony is on the sand, read our beach wedding sound tips, and see our page on ceremony and cocktail-hour music.

Destination weddings and out-of-town guests

With a major airport minutes from the beach and a deep supply of hotels, Fort Lauderdale is a favorite for destination weddings. That shapes the dance floor. When half the guests have flown in from across the country (or the world) and the other half are locals, you need a playlist that works for everyone: big singalong classics, current hits, and the regional favorites that make visitors feel like they're on vacation. Our must-play songs by era guide is a good starting point.

Destination couples often plan a whole weekend: welcome drinks, the wedding and a farewell brunch. If you'd like music or a microphone for more than the main event, mention it when you request a quote, and we'll talk through what makes sense.

Las Olas and downtown

Downtown Fort Lauderdale and the Las Olas area offer a very different style of wedding: restaurant buyouts, rooftop terraces, modern hotel ballrooms and riverfront spaces with a city skyline. These venues tend to have:

  • Shared spaces and tight load-in windows, so we coordinate arrival times with the venue.
  • Sound restrictions for outdoor terraces, especially near residences. We keep levels within the rules.
  • COI requirements. Starlight is insured, and we provide a certificate of insurance on request.

In smaller restaurant spaces, a compact setup and careful volume control keep the energy high without overpowering conversation.

Beachfront hotel receptions

Many beachfront hotels pair a ceremony on the sand with a reception in a ballroom upstairs. Ballrooms are a blank canvas, and that's where uplighting earns its keep, turning neutral walls into ocean blues and sunset pinks. Our uplighting color guide has coastal palette ideas.

Season and timing

Fort Lauderdale's peak season runs from late fall to spring, when visitors flock south and the weather is ideal for outdoor ceremonies. Book early for those months. Summer weddings mean heat, humidity and quick afternoon storms, plus hurricane season from June through November. Evening ceremonies and indoor receptions are the summer couple's best friends.

Coming up from Miami

We're based in Miami, about 30 miles south. We build travel buffers into the day and arrive early, set up and sound-check well before guests arrive, so I-95 traffic is our problem, not yours.

Pricing

Our posted rates are the same across South Florida: $800 Sunday, $1,000 Friday, $1,200 Saturday, flat-rate with unlimited time. Uplighting is $300 with a DJ package, and the photo booth is $100 off with a DJ. See our Miami wedding DJ cost guide for sample totals.

Wedding weekends with guests from out of town

Fort Lauderdale's airport, beaches and hotels make it a popular choice for couples whose guests are flying in. That often turns a wedding into a weekend, with a welcome party, the wedding itself and sometimes a farewell brunch.

If you're planning more than one event, a few tips:

  • Keep the music distinct. A welcome party can be laid-back with background music and a few throwbacks. Save the big dance-floor moments for the wedding night.
  • Plan for travelers' energy. Guests who flew in that day may fade early at a welcome event, so keep it shorter and lighter.
  • Ask about multiple bookings early. If you'd like a DJ for more than one event that weekend, tell us when you request a quote so we can confirm availability for each date.
  • Share a single schedule. Send all your vendors one document with every event, location and time for the weekend.

Out-of-town guests also tend to be very curious about local flavor. A short set of Latin or Caribbean music during cocktail hour is a fun way to give a nod to South Florida without taking over the night.

★★★★★
“Brandon was incredible for our wedding 6/17/17. From the bridal entrance (the groom and I were late coming back from pictures) to his own built playlist, he was fantastic. We put in 3 requests and he ran the rest. The dance floor was packed the entire night. I would recommend Brandon to everyone I know! Thanks again Brandon!”

“Brandon was an awesome DJ! He was truly a professional, had great advice, was easy to work with, and kept everyone on the dance floor. He really took our selections to heart, and got our style and taste from the guidance we gave, but improved it for our guests to get the right flow and energy. He was super- would highly recommend.”

“Brandon was the dj at my sister's wedding. By far one of the best weddings I've been to, and I know a lot of that was because of him. Would definitely call him again.”
