What uplighting is, and why it photographs so well
Uplighting is simple: compact LED fixtures sit on the floor against walls, columns, drapery or plants and wash them with color from below. The effect is anything but simple. A room that looks flat and beige under overhead lights suddenly has depth, warmth and a sense of occasion. Because the light is low and indirect, it flatters skin tones and gives photographers a rich background without harsh glare. Many couples tell us their reception photos look like a different venue once the uplights are on.
What's included in our package
Our uplighting package is $400, or $300 when you add it to a DJ package. It includes ten lights in any color you'd like, set up and taken down by us. Bundled prices with our DJ service are $1,100 on Sundays, $1,300 on Fridays and $1,500 on Saturdays, with unlimited time.
Ten fixtures is enough to transform most ballrooms and banquet rooms: lighting the main walls, framing the head table, highlighting columns, or picking out architectural details like arches, a stage or a bar. During planning we'll talk about which features are worth highlighting at your venue.
Indoor venues only
Our uplighting package is designed for indoor venues, where there are walls, columns and ceilings to bounce light. Outdoors, there's nothing for the light to land on, and sand, wind, sprinklers and humidity aren't kind to fixtures. If your reception is in a tent or on a covered terrace, ask us. It depends on the structure.
Choosing colors
Color is the fun part. A few quick rules of thumb:
- Match one accent, not everything. Pick a single color from your palette, usually from the flowers or bridesmaid dresses, rather than trying to match every shade.
- Warm tones (amber, gold, soft pink) feel romantic and flatter skin, which makes them great for dinner.
- Cool tones (blue, purple, teal) feel modern and dramatic, and are perfect once dancing starts.
- Two-color looks, such as alternating fixtures or different colors on different walls, add depth without looking busy.
Our full wedding uplighting color guide walks through popular palettes, what each color says, and how to work with your photographer.
Changing the mood through the night
Because our fixtures are LED, colors can change between parts of the evening. A common approach is soft, warm light during dinner and toasts, then a shift to richer, bolder color when the dance floor opens. Pair that with our dance-floor light show and the room changes character the moment the party starts.
Uplighting for every kind of event
Uplighting isn't only for weddings. It's an easy way to brand a corporate event in company colors, bring a quinceañera or sweet 16 theme to life, or make a milestone birthday feel like a gala. We serve venues across South Florida, from Miami and Coral Gables to Boca Raton and Palm Beach Gardens.
Venue rules and insurance
Some venues restrict where equipment can be placed, how cables are run or what time vendors can load in. We follow house rules and tape down every cable. Starlight is insured, and we can provide a certificate of insurance (COI) to your venue on request.

Uplighting for events beyond weddings
Uplighting isn't just for weddings. It works at any indoor event where you want the room to feel different from the way it looks during the day:
- Corporate events and galas. Uplighting in brand colors is a simple way to make a hotel ballroom feel like your event. Send us your brand colors, and we'll match as closely as LED color allows.
- Quinceañeras and sweet sixteens. Colors that match the dress or theme make photos pop, and color changes can mark big moments like the surprise dance.
- Anniversary and milestone parties. Warm amber and gold create a classic, celebratory feel.
- Holiday parties. Red, green, blue or white can set a seasonal mood without extra decor.
- Fundraisers and community events. Uplighting makes a modest budget for decor go further.
For any event, the most important thing is the room itself. Tell us the venue, and send photos if you have them, so we can recommend placement and colors. Uplighting is $400, or $300 when you book it with a DJ package.
