Miami Wedding DJ

Based in Miami and DJing here since 1997. We know the city's venues, its traffic and, most importantly, its dance floors.

Miami is our home base. Starlight Music DJ Service is based in Miami, FL, and we've been DJing weddings and celebrations here since 1997. In that time the skyline has changed beyond recognition, but some things haven't: Miami couples want a party, Miami families want to dance, and a Miami wedding dance floor almost never has just one kind of music on it.

A city of many weddings in one

There's no single "Miami wedding." The city's neighborhoods offer completely different settings, and each shapes the music and sound in its own way:

  • Downtown and Brickell: high-rise hotel ballrooms and rooftops with skyline views. Expect modern, polished receptions, strict building logistics (loading docks, freight elevators, insurance certificates) and firm end times.
  • Coconut Grove: bayfront lawns, gardens and historic homes with a relaxed, leafy feel. Many Grove weddings start outdoors and move inside, so plan sound for two spaces.
  • Wynwood and the Design District: industrial lofts, galleries and warehouse spaces with art on the walls. These rooms can echo, so speaker placement and volume matter more than usual. Uplighting does wonders on bare concrete and brick.
  • Little Havana and the historic core: courtyards and spaces with deep Cuban roots, where a salsa set isn't optional.
  • Key Biscayne and the bayfront: waterfront ceremonies with Biscayne Bay or the ocean as the backdrop, where wind control is essential (see our beach wedding sound tips).

If your venue is in Miami Beach or Coral Gables, we've written separate guides for those cities, because the planning really is different.

Music for a Miami crowd

Ask anyone who has DJed here: Miami dance floors are among the most demanding in the country, and the most rewarding. A typical guest list might include Cuban grandparents, Colombian and Venezuelan cousins, Puerto Rican and Dominican friends, Haitian and Jamaican neighbors, coworkers from up north and a college crowd that wants hip-hop and EDM. The job is to give everyone their moment without splitting the room.

We do that by blending: short sets across genres, bridge songs that cross over, and a constant eye on who's dancing. Salsa, merengue, bachata and reggaeton sit alongside Motown, '80s, '90s and today's hits. Our Latin and tropical music page explains our approach in detail, and our must-play songs by era guide covers the classics.

Miami weather and wedding season

Miami's peak wedding season runs roughly from late fall through spring, when the humidity drops and evenings are pleasant outdoors. Summer weddings are absolutely doable, and often easier to book, but plan for heat and the near-daily afternoon thunderstorms of the rainy season. Hurricane season officially runs June 1 through November 30. For outdoor ceremonies, we agree a weather backup plan with you and your venue in advance so a move indoors takes minutes, not an hour.

Getting around: traffic and timing

Anyone who has driven I-95, the Palmetto or US-1 on a Saturday afternoon knows Miami traffic is unpredictable. We build generous travel buffers into every wedding day and arrive early, set up and sound-check well before guests arrive. We also suggest you build buffers into your timeline. A ceremony in one neighborhood and a reception in another can take longer than the map says. Our sample reception timeline shows where buffers help most.

Venue requirements in Miami

Hotels, condo-tower event spaces, clubs and city-owned venues in Miami commonly require vendors to provide a certificate of insurance (COI), and some have specific wording requirements. Starlight is insured, and we can provide a COI to your venue on request. Many downtown venues also have noise rules for outdoor terraces and rooftops; we follow them and keep levels appropriate for the space.

Pricing for Miami weddings

Our pricing is the same throughout South Florida, and it's posted publicly: $800 on Sundays, $1,000 on Fridays and $1,200 on Saturdays, flat-rate with unlimited time. Add uplighting for $300 with a DJ package, or our photo booth at $100 off. Read the full breakdown in our guide to how much a Miami wedding DJ costs.

What's included

Every wedding DJ package includes MC services, a cordless microphone for toasts, a dance-floor light show, a library of more than 30,000 songs and planning help with your timeline and music. Optional add-ons include ceremony and cocktail-hour music, uplighting, the photo booth and first-dance lessons.

Neighborhood by neighborhood

Miami is a set of very different neighborhoods, and the feel of a wedding often follows the neighborhood:

  • Brickell and downtown mean high-rise hotels and rooftops, with loading docks, freight elevators and city skyline views. Plan for building logistics and, outdoors, for wind at height.
  • Wynwood and the Design District lean toward industrial spaces and art-forward events. Couples here often want a more current, club-influenced music mix, and uplighting does a lot of work on bare walls.
  • Coconut Grove brings bayfront and tree-canopy settings, where outdoor sound and evening humidity both need a plan.
  • Little Havana and family celebrations across the county often call for a strong Latin set and a lot of multi-generational dancing.
  • Key Biscayne and the waterfront add beach and bay considerations: wind, sand, power and permits.

We drive to all of it from our base in Miami. Tell us the neighborhood and the venue when you request a quote, and we'll walk you through anything specific to that area.

★★★★★
“Brandon was incredible for our wedding 6/17/17. From the bridal entrance (the groom and I were late coming back from pictures) to his own built playlist, he was fantastic. We put in 3 requests and he ran the rest. The dance floor was packed the entire night. I would recommend Brandon to everyone I know! Thanks again Brandon!”

“Brandon was an awesome DJ! He was truly a professional, had great advice, was easy to work with, and kept everyone on the dance floor. He really took our selections to heart, and got our style and taste from the guidance we gave, but improved it for our guests to get the right flow and energy. He was super- would highly recommend.”

“Brandon was the dj at my sister's wedding. By far one of the best weddings I've been to, and I know a lot of that was because of him. Would definitely call him again.”
