Coral Gables Wedding DJ

Elegant, historic settings call for a DJ who knows when to be refined and when to turn it up.

Coral Gables calls itself "The City Beautiful," and for weddings it lives up to the name. Mediterranean Revival architecture, coral-rock walls, banyan-shaded streets, grand historic hotels, churches, gardens and private estates give Gables weddings a timeless, formal elegance. That changes how we approach music and MC work. We've been DJing weddings in Coral Gables and across Miami-Dade since 1997.

A more formal rhythm

Coral Gables weddings often lean classic: a church or garden ceremony, a cocktail hour with live-music energy, a long, elegant dinner, and then a dance floor that comes alive. The emphasis on the earlier parts of the evening is stronger than at many South Florida weddings, so the music needs to be just as carefully curated at 7 PM as at 11 PM.

  • Ceremony: Many Gables ceremonies take place in historic churches or gardens. In a church, you'll follow the parish's rules on music, and often an organist or musicians handle the ceremony itself. In a garden, you'll want a discreet, wind-protected mic and speakers hidden among the greenery. See ceremony and cocktail-hour music.
  • Cocktail hour: Jazz standards, bossa nova, string covers of pop songs and classic crooners suit courtyards and loggias beautifully.
  • Dinner: Volume low enough for conversation, with a warm, sophisticated mix. This is where many Gables couples bring in their parents' and grandparents' favorites.
  • Dancing: Then the party starts. An elegant room doesn't mean a quiet dance floor.

MC style for an elegant room

In a historic ballroom or a formal estate, a loud, hype-heavy MC can feel out of place. We adjust: fewer announcements, a warm and polished tone, and clear coordination with your planner and the venue's captain. When it's time to open the dance floor, we bring the energy up. It's about matching the moment. Read more on our wedding MC page.

Historic venues and their rules

Historic buildings are beautiful, and they're also protected. Expect rules about where equipment can go, how cables are routed, what can touch walls and floors, and when vendors can load in. Many also have specific sound limits and end times. We follow house rules to the letter, tape every cable and keep a tidy footprint. Nearly every venue of this kind requires a certificate of insurance. Starlight is insured, and we provide a COI to your venue on request.

Estate and backyard weddings

Coral Gables is also known for gracious private homes, and some couples marry in a family garden. Residential weddings are lovely and intimate, but they need extra planning:

  1. Neighbors and noise. Residential areas have noise rules and quiet hours. Keep the party within them, and consider giving neighbors a friendly heads-up.
  2. Power. Household outlets can be overloaded by catering, lighting and sound together. Plan circuits in advance.
  3. Weather cover. A tent with sides is wise for an outdoor reception, especially in the rainy season.
  4. Layout. We'll help decide where the dance floor and speakers go so sound reaches guests rather than the street.

Lighting that flatters the architecture

Coral Gables interiors, with their columns, arches, coffered ceilings and stone, are made for uplighting. Warm amber or champagne tones highlight the architecture during dinner, then deeper color takes over for dancing. Our uplighting color guide has palette ideas for classic rooms.

Music with roots

The Gables sits in the heart of Miami-Dade, and many families here have deep Cuban, Spanish and Latin American roots. A Gables wedding might move from Sinatra to Celia Cruz to Bruno Mars in one set, and it should. See our approach to Latin and tropical music.

Pricing

Our pricing is flat and posted: $800 Sunday, $1,000 Friday, $1,200 Saturday, with unlimited time. Add uplighting for $300 with a DJ package. Full details are in our DJ cost guide.

Planning a formal reception timeline

Coral Gables receptions often follow a more traditional, formal structure, and that structure benefits from careful timing. A typical formal evening might move from cocktail hour to a full grand entrance, a first dance, a welcome or blessing, a plated dinner served in courses, and then toasts and parent dances before the dance floor opens.

A few things help formal timelines run smoothly:

  • Coordinate with the catering captain. Plated dinners are served on the kitchen's schedule. We check in with the captain so toasts and dances don't collide with a course coming out.
  • Keep dinner music at the right level. In a formal room, guests want to talk during dinner. We keep it elegant and conversational, often jazz, standards or soft classics.
  • Group the formal moments. Running the parent dances and toasts back to back, right before open dancing, keeps the night from feeling stop-and-start.
  • Mark the transition. When it's time to dance, we change the lighting and music clearly so guests know the formal part is over.

With a good plan, the room can be elegant early in the evening and still have a full dance floor by the end.

What Couples & Venues Say

★★★★★
“Brandon was incredible for our wedding 6/17/17. From the bridal entrance (the groom and I were late coming back from pictures) to his own built playlist, he was fantastic. We put in 3 requests and he ran the rest. The dance floor was packed the entire night. I would recommend Brandon to everyone I know! Thanks again Brandon!”

“Brandon was an awesome DJ! He was truly a professional, had great advice, was easy to work with, and kept everyone on the dance floor. He really took our selections to heart, and got our style and taste from the guidance we gave, but improved it for our guests to get the right flow and energy. He was super- would highly recommend.”

“Brandon was the dj at my sister's wedding. By far one of the best weddings I've been to, and I know a lot of that was because of him. Would definitely call him again.”
