Disco Dots Dance Party

Quinceañera & Sweet 16 DJ

A night that belongs to her: grand entrances, choreographed dances, family traditions and a dance floor for every age.

A quinceañera or sweet sixteen is often the first big party a young person has that's truly about them, and for many families it's as carefully planned as a wedding. The music has two audiences: the birthday girl and her friends, who want the songs they actually listen to, and parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, who want to dance too. We've been balancing crowds like this across South Florida since 1997.

A program, not just a playlist

Quinceañeras in particular follow a structured program, and the DJ and MC keep it moving. The exact traditions vary by family and country, but a typical evening may include:

  • The grand entrance of the court of honor (damas and chambelanes) and the quinceañera, often with a dramatic song choice and lighting.
  • The father-daughter waltz, sometimes followed by dances with other important family members.
  • The changing of the shoes, a tradition symbolizing the step into young adulthood.
  • The last doll or other symbolic gifts.
  • The surprise dance or choreographed number by the court. These are often rehearsed for weeks and need the music cued exactly.
  • The toast, usually by parents or godparents.
  • Cake and candles, sometimes with a candle ceremony honoring important people.

We'll go through your program with you in advance, confirm every song and cue, and coordinate with your photographer and videographer so nothing is missed.

Sweet sixteens

Sweet sixteens are usually less formal but have their own moments: an entrance, a candle-lighting ceremony honoring family and friends, a slideshow, a parent dance, and plenty of open dancing. Many are themed. We can help bring a theme to life with uplighting in her colors and a playlist built around it.

Music that works for teens and adults

The biggest challenge at these parties is the generation gap. Teens want current hits, viral dance songs and their favorite artists. Adults want the classics, whether that's salsa and merengue, freestyle and '80s pop, or '90s hip-hop. Our approach:

  1. Get the teen list early. Ask the birthday girl for her must-plays and her friends' favorites. She knows what will get her friends on the floor.
  2. Plan family sets. Blocks of music for parents and grandparents, timed so they arrive while the energy is high, not after the teens have left the floor.
  3. Keep it clean. We play clean versions by default at all teen events, and we'll check any song you're unsure about.
  4. Use group dances. Line dances and party songs bridge generations better than anything else.

If your family loves Latin and Caribbean music, see our page on Latin and tropical music.

Choreographed dances and practice

The surprise dance is often the highlight of a quinceañera. We'll make sure your edited track (many courts dance to a custom mix) plays exactly as rehearsed. Send it to us in advance and we'll test it on our system. Our team was founded by champion and celebrity dancers, and we also offer dance instruction if the waltz or the court's routine needs polish.

Lighting and photo booth

Two add-ons are especially popular at these parties:

  • Dance-floor lighting and uplighting. Teens love a party that looks like a club, and uplighting in her theme colors makes the room photograph beautifully. See our color guide.
  • Photo booth. Unlimited sessions, props and instant prints. It's often the busiest spot in the room at teen parties.

Safety, venues and insurance

Banquet halls, hotels and clubs often require vendor insurance. We're insured and can send a certificate of insurance (COI) to your venue on request. We also respect the venue's sound rules and end time, and with our flat-rate, unlimited-time pricing you won't be rushed by an overtime clock.

A sample quinceañera program

Every family runs the night their own way, and many follow traditions specific to their family's country or church. As a starting point, here's an order many South Florida quinceañeras follow:

  1. Guest arrival and cocktail music. Upbeat but conversational.
  2. Grand entrance of the court, followed by the quinceañera's entrance, with announcements.
  3. Welcome and blessing, if the family includes one.
  4. Dinner, with background music at a level that allows conversation.
  5. Traditional moments your family chooses, such as the changing of the shoes or a presentation, each with its own music cue.
  6. Father-daughter waltz, often followed by the waltz with the court.
  7. The surprise dance, which is usually the most high-energy choreographed moment of the night.
  8. Toasts from parents or godparents.
  9. Open dancing, mixing Latin, pop and hip-hop for teens and adults.
  10. Cake and the last dance.

Send us your version, and we'll build the music and announcements around it. If you're not sure what order works best, we can talk it through on the phone.

Pricing and booking

Our posted DJ rates are $800 on Sundays, $1,000 on Fridays and $1,200 on Saturdays, flat-rate with unlimited time. ★★★★★
“Brandon was incredible for our wedding 6/17/17. From the bridal entrance (the groom and I were late coming back from pictures) to his own built playlist, he was fantastic. We put in 3 requests and he ran the rest. The dance floor was packed the entire night. I would recommend Brandon to everyone I know! Thanks again Brandon!”

“Brandon was an awesome DJ! He was truly a professional, had great advice, was easy to work with, and kept everyone on the dance floor. He really took our selections to heart, and got our style and taste from the guidance we gave, but improved it for our guests to get the right flow and energy. He was super- would highly recommend.”

“Brandon was the dj at my sister's wedding. By far one of the best weddings I've been to, and I know a lot of that was because of him. Would definitely call him again.”
