Weddings are a big part of what we do, but the skills behind a great wedding (reading a mixed crowd, handling a microphone well, staying on schedule) carry over to every kind of celebration. Starlight Music DJ Service has played events across South Florida since 1997. This page explains how we approach corporate events and private parties, and what to plan for.
Corporate events
A corporate event has a different job from a wedding. The music supports a goal: welcoming clients, celebrating a team, launching something, raising money. Guests may not know each other, and the evening often includes speeches, awards or presentations. What matters most:
- Professionalism. On-time arrival, a clean setup, appropriate dress and clean versions of songs.
- Clear audio for speakers. A cordless microphone with properly set levels for welcome remarks, awards and toasts. If your program uses video or slides, tell us early so we can plan any audio connections.
- Volume that fits the purpose. Networking hours need background music that lets people talk. The after-dinner party can open up.
- Following a run-of-show. We work from your agenda and coordinate with your event manager or the venue's banquet captain.
Typical corporate events we're a good fit for include holiday parties, company anniversaries, employee appreciation nights, client receptions, galas and award dinners.

Holiday parties
The end-of-year holiday party is the corporate event most likely to become a real dance party, and the one where music choices matter most. Your team spans ages, backgrounds and tastes. We start with familiar, feel-good songs that pull people onto the floor, mix in seasonal favorites without overdoing them, and keep everything workplace-appropriate. Planning a December date? Weekends book quickly, so it pays to reserve in late summer or early fall.
Private parties
Private parties cover a huge range: 40th, 50th and 60th birthdays, anniversary and vow-renewal parties, retirement celebrations, graduations, engagement parties and reunions. What they share is a guest of honor and a crowd that wants to celebrate them. We'll ask you:
- Who's coming? Ages, backgrounds and how much they like to dance.
- What's the guest of honor's music? A milestone birthday built around the hits from the year they turned 18 is always a winner. Our must-play songs by era guide works for parties too.
- What moments need a mic? Toasts, a slideshow, a surprise entrance, cake.
- What's off-limits? A short do-not-play list helps. See our do-not-play list tips.
Add-ons that change a room
Two add-ons make the biggest difference at parties:
- Uplighting turns a plain ballroom or event room into a branded or themed space. For corporate events, matching your brand colors is an easy win. Our uplighting color guide explains how colors affect mood.
- Photo booth gives guests something to do besides stand at the bar, and the prints become take-home souvenirs. It's especially good for mixers where guests don't know each other, because nothing breaks the ice like a silly hat.

Insurance and venue requirements
Hotels, clubs, office buildings and municipal spaces often require vendors to show proof of liability insurance. Starlight is insured, and we can issue a certificate of insurance (COI) naming your venue or company on request. Send us the requirements early, since some buildings also need loading-dock reservations or freight-elevator times.
Sound levels and end times
Corporate venues and residential buildings often have strict sound rules. We keep levels appropriate for the space and respect the venue's end time. Our flat-rate, unlimited-time pricing means you never have to rush a speech or cut the party short to avoid an overtime bill.
Pricing
Our posted DJ rates are $800 on Sundays, $1,000 on Fridays and $1,200 on Saturdays, flat-rate with unlimited time. Uplighting is $400, or $300 with a DJ package, and the photo booth is $100 off when you book it with a DJ. Weekday corporate events and special requirements are quoted individually. Read what affects DJ pricing for more detail.

How to plan the music for a work event
Corporate crowds are different from wedding crowds. People know each other from work, not from family, and many of them are a little careful about letting loose in front of colleagues. A few things help:
- Tell us the goal. Networking reception, awards night or full-on party? Each one calls for a different volume and pace.
- Give us the run of show. Speeches, awards, raffles and the CEO's welcome all need a working microphone and a clean musical cue in and out.
- Share any content guidelines. Most companies want clean edits only. We play clean versions by default at corporate events, and you can add a do-not-play list.
- Plan the dance floor moment. Dancing usually starts after dinner and after the formal part of the program. A strong group song or a familiar throwback is often what gets the first people up, and we watch the room to pick the moment.
If the event is a mix of business and celebration, like a company anniversary or a holiday party with families, we keep the early part of the evening background-friendly and build from there.
